We welcome October as it is the peak of the fall semester, with many exciting times ahead such as Fall Break, Halloween, and more! In addition, we get to enjoy Wave Weekend ‘23 (October 19-22) and the many festivities that come along with it, including the Homecoming game! To add to all the excitement happening on campus, this month at Campus Rec offers many exciting opportunities, to get your body moving, and your mind healthy, and to even explore the great outdoors.
Special Fitness Events
If your goal for the new month is to get your body moving, but you don’t know where to start, the Rec Center offers many great group workout events. Whether you want to explore cardio or get more into weight training, there are many opportunities for you. Check out these exciting events, and feel free to bring a friend along too!

BODYCOMBAT Initial Training (October 14th and 15th- 9:00 AM-5:00 PM)
This is an exhilarating opportunity, as The Body Combat training program by Les Mills is coming to Tulane University for a workshop certification program, BODYCOMBAT! This program is all weekend, from Saturday, October 14 to Sunday, October 15. At the end of the weekend, you will receive a fitness certification.
BODYCOMBAT is a non-contact workout inspired by martial arts. Through this weekend, you will learn how to facilitate this workout. This is a great way to redefine your fitness journey and learn from one of the many experts from Les Mills. This workshop is something that you won’t want to miss out on!

BODYPUMP Initial Training (October 14th and 15th-9:00 AM-5:00 PM)
In addition to BODYCOMBAT, Les Mills is also offering another workshop certification program, BODYPUMP. This program is all weekend long, from Saturday, October 14 to Sunday, October 15 and you will receive a certification at the end. Learn from the experts and explore your fitness interests deeper through this program!
BODYPUMP is a total-body barbell workout and is great for those looking to learn even more about weight training. You will learn how to facilitate this workout and improve your skills and form at the same time. This intensive workshop weekend is great if you are interested in taking the next steps in your fitness journey.

Fitness Screenings + Squat Challenge (October 19th- 4:30 PM-6:00 PM)
Whether you are looking to start your journey with a personal trainer, you’re up for a challenge, or both, the Reily Center is offering a free fitness screening and squat challenge this month. This event will allow you the opportunity to partake in screenings with personal trainers using BodyScript Optima to help shape your fitness goals. There will also be the opportunity to showcase your squats if that is a strength for you.
The Fitness Screenings + Squat Challenge is a step that will allow you to better understand your body and what type of workouts and training would best benefit you and your health. If you are interested, a personal trainer will take the information from this screening to best formulate a health and fitness plan for you and your needs. Also, if you out-squat every competitor in the squat challenge, you will win a prize courtesy of the Reily Center, and bragging rights, of course. You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to start personal training and healthy competition!

Outdoor Adventures
If you want to explore the great outdoors this month, Campus Recreation offers many unique Outdoor Adventure programs to make this goal a reality. Embrace the beauty of nature that New Orleans and Louisiana have to offer while also staying active!
Fall Break Backpacking (October 5th-October 8th)
Not doing anything for Fall Break, but want to go on an adventure? Outdoor Adventures is offering a backpacking trip through the Kisatchie National Forest, and it is something that you don’t want to miss. Spend your days hiking through this Louisiana gem, learning more about the flora and fauna of the forest. This is a great way to learn more about the great state that we are in while also keeping active.
There are many sights to be seen throughout the Kisatchie National Forest, and this is a great way for you to connect with nature. Whether it’s decompressing from midterms stress, or just a much-needed break, this backpacking trip is a wonderful opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and take time for yourself.

Intro to Camping (October 20th-October 22nd)
Are you new to camping, but don’t know where or how to start? Or are you craving another camping adventure? Outdoor Adventures has your answer! This camping trip includes all the aspects of camping: hiking, staying in tents, cooking food, stargazing, and more. This is great whether it is your first time ever camping or you are a pro who just wants to go back to your roots.
This is a great way to try something new and different, and get away for the weekend! This weekend, you get to explore the beauty of Louisiana’s natural landscape, learn new skills, and stay active. In the process, you might even meet a new friend or two who share the same interest in camping as you.

Parents & Family Weekend Paddle (October 22nd-9:00 AM-1:00 PM)
Not sure where to take your parents and family, or what to add to your itinerary for Wave Weekend? Outdoor Adventures has you covered! If you and your family enjoy the outdoors and staying active together, this paddle is perfect. You and your loved ones can paddle through Bayou St. John, located right by City Park.
You will be able to introduce your loved ones to the scenery that Louisiana and New Orleans have to offer, and challenge yourselves physically through paddling. Whether you paddle in your free time or are a beginner, all levels of experience are welcome to join. This paddle trip is a great way to do something with your family that is unique, active, and fun!
